But engineers are in high demand abroad and a good number of OFWs are highly paid skilled engineers. Then again, not all engineers are created equal. There are also some types of engineers more in demand atcertain times than others. It seems that these days, it is all about computer engineering.

As for salaries, NYT reports that “Google is paying computer science majors just out of college $90,000 to $105,000, as much as $20,000 more than it was paying a few months ago. That is so far above the industry average of $80,000 that start-ups cannot match Google salaries.”
The Times continues: “…the shortage of qualified engineers has grown acute in the last six months… Nationwide unemployment among computer scientists and programmers is higher than in other white-collar professions – around five percent… But even with a glut of engineers on the job market, few have the skills that tech companies look for, said Cadir Lee, chief technology officer at Zynga.

“Colleges rarely teach the newer programming languages like PHP, Ruby and Python, which have become more popular at young Web companies than older ones like Java, he said. Other skills, like working with large amounts of data and analytics, can be acquired only at a few companies.”

The biggest number of jobseekers is for factory and service crew and cashier and production machine operators.
Others in the list are sales and office clerks, nurses and sales ladies.

On the other hand, the top vacancies reported in the DOLE Philjobnet system are call center agents, accounting clerks, mechanical engineers, domestic helpers, sales clerks and warehousemen.

In 2007, Soriano said POEA figures revealed that among the first-time OFWs, 121, 715 were factory workers, 107,135 were classified as service workers mostly domestics while only 43,225 were professional and technical workers. Another 20, 000 were sent out as sales workers and clerks.

“In 2007, 74 percent of deployed workers were domestics, service and factory workers. Of all the deployed, only 14 percent were new hires,” he pointed out.

He said the “most alarming trend” has been the increasing rate of female workers getting jobs overseas. In the past seven years, he said, 64 percent were female against 36 male and most of them were sent as domestic helpers, entertainers and factory hands.

“Philippine Star report: The country is not generating enough qualified skilled manpower and if the situation is not reversed, we can expect a continuing decline in hiring of Filipino workers abroad,” FAME executive director Lito Soriano said.

Local recruiters are especially having difficulty filling positions for oil production engineers and oil riggers in the Middle East.

He said government efforts to produce more welders and other skilled workers for overseas deployment, yielded low results. Because of this, Soriano said colleges and universities should offer courses that train students for overseas employment.

THE Cebu City government on Thursday signed an agreement with SM Prime Holdings Inc. for the outright sale of 30 hectares of the reclaimed South Road Properties (SRP), marking the official start of an estimated P20-billion investment by the company in the property for the next eight years.

SM Prime president Hans Sy said they will build a new mall that should be among the top 10 biggest malls in the world, a convention center and a chain of sky-rise hotels and condominium buildings. He said the whole development will be completed in eight years.

Although the contract with the city stipulates SM to build within 18 months, Sy said construction work will commence by the middle of 2010 for the 250,000-square-meter mall and the 60,000 square-meter convention center.

Middle Eastern countries top destination for OFWs in 2010 - POEA

01/10/2010 Press release Major development projects in Middle Eastern countries make the region still the top labor market for overseas Filipino workers (OFW) for 2010 and the years after, according to the government’s overseas employment agency.

In its report called “OFW Deployment Trend Outlook for 2010 and Beyond," the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) said Gulf Estates such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have major projects set to start this year.

POEA Administrator Jennifer Manalili said the projects involve the sectors of construction, energy, industry, petrochemicals, power, water, transport, health, food, tourism, retail, telecommunication, production and distribution services, banking, education and information technology.

Saudi Arabia, for example, remains the top destination country for OFWs as it embarks on a medium to long-term socio-economic development plans, including the creation of 12 mega-industrial/economic cities across the Kingdom, expected to last until 2024.

Job prospects across Asia

The Asian region, meanwhile, will continue to hire skilled workers and professionals in light of the development plans of these countries to widen their economic base, the report said.

For instance, Malaysia’s economy, particularly the petroleum sector, continues to thrive amid the global financial crisis, according to the POEA.

Development plans include new infrastructure projects in transport and communication, tourism development, public housing, healthcare services, and public utilities in the energy sector, it added.

Japan is also expected to promote employment of highly skilled foreign workers in healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, construction and machine assembly for the next 10 years.

The POEA, however, added that Japan would hire only around 60 nurses and 101 caregivers this year for the second batch of health workers under the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (Jpepa) due to the effects of the financial crisis.

On the other hand, Taiwan’s comprehensive medium-term development plan will generate 700,000 jobs in the next five years, over 200,000 of which will be offered to foreign workers in the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.

Workers in demand in Asia are engineers, teachers, operators, health workers, welders, pipe fitters and riggers, plantation workers, service workers, IT specialists, manufacturing and hotel and gaming workers, IT and financial workers, and those in the healthcare, construction, ship building and repair sectors.

Reduced opportunities

Employment opportunities for Filipinos in Europe and other regions, however, remain low in light of the global crisis.

New Zealand, Spain, Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic and Australia are prioritizing employment of their own nationals as all are reeling from high unemployment rates due to the financial crunch.

Similarly, the United States is currently controlling the issuance of visas for workers even as it reportedly has a shortage of over 200,000 nurses.

Israel, which recorded one of the highest demands for caregivers last year, also recently implemented a legalization program that may slow down deployment of workers in the country.

The POEA is nevertheless optimistic that labor opportunities will be available in other parts of Europe, like Belgium, Cyprus, Italy, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark, particularly in the fields of engineering, information technology, medicine and nursing.

In the African region, Libya reportedly needs more workers for its oil and gas industries, while Cameroon and Seychelles are planning to recruit more teachers in the next five years.

Access of OFWs to these opportunities will depend on job orders that licensed recruitment and manning agencies here can secure from foreign employers, the POEA added.

Philippine POEA clarifies job availability in US, UK

01/07/2010 The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) reminded prospective applicants on Wednesday to check first with the agency on the availability of job opportunities abroad, especially for the United States and the United Kingdom.

US jobs

In a statement posted on its website, POEA Administrator Jennifer Manalili clarified that job orders approved for the US included not only nurses but also pharmacists and physiotherapists, seasonal workers in hotels, golf courses and resorts, and information and communication technology workers.

Manalili also disclosed that of the 13,360 job orders from the US in 2009, only 876 or 6.5% have been filled up largely due to visa retrogression, or a delay in obtaining an immigrant visa (Green Card) when there are more people applying for it than the number of visas available.

She also clarified that the demand for construction workers was not for the US labor market but for Guam’s planned development of a military facility this year, recruitment for which may take a longer time.

Also, there also no employment prospects for the oil and gas industries in the US so far, she said, belying earlier reports.

Manalili further stressed that the agency has not received requests for approval of job orders for dog handlers in Dubai, contrary to newspaper reports.

“We will make formal announcements as soon as the job offers are confirmed", Manalili said, as she cautioned workers to guard against being victimized by illegal recruiters promising immediate departure for these destinations.

UK jobs

In a separate advisory, the POEA similarly asked applicants seeking employment in the United Kingdom to inquire with its offices first if their prospective employers are accredited or registered under a licensed recruitment agency.

Manalili also advised workers to search the website of the British Embassy-Manila for details on the new points-based system (PBS), and to verify if the jobs are indeed available in the UK.

The POEA explained that under the PBS, the tier 2 work permits, or permits for workers who are citizens of countries outside of the European Economic Area (EEA), are applied for by employers who need to fill a vacant position with a specific person. To secure this permit, employers must prove that they had advertised the position nationally and failed to find the right person from inside the EEA.

Employers must also obtain a Sponsorship License for foreign workers, which the POEA advises applicants to ask for first before transacting with UK employers.

Skilled workers are also required to reach at least 70 ‘immigration’ points, based on qualifications, prospective earnings, maintenance funds, and English language capability, for entry to the UK.

'Deceptive scheme' of some schools

In this light, Manalili warned applicants about the deceptive scheme of some training and learning schools. These schools, she said, target mostly nurses, healthcare professionals and students who are required to finish their course in the said school then given promises that their school will facilitate their employment abroad.

Another is the trainee-worker scheme, where workers are recruited and deployed as trainees based on an agreement, even as training and learning schools are not licensed to recruit workers for overseas employment.

Manalili also reminded applicants that UK restricts the charging of any placement to persons seeking employment. She further stressed that all interested jobseekers should ckech the veracity of employment opportunities abroad through the POEA website.

According to the POEA, the Middle East remains the major labor market for overseas Filipino workers in 2010 as the financial crunch has minimally affected the economies in the region except for Dubai.

POEA bares 13,360 job openings in US

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration announced Wednesday a total of 13,360 approved job orders for the US that includes nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, seasonal workers in hotels, golf courses and resorts, and information and communication technology workers.

So far, a total of 876 of the total job orders have been filled up, POEA Administrator Jennifer Jardin-Manalili said, although the US is currently on visa retrogression on nurses recruited as immigrant for employment visas (EB3).

Manalili also clarified previous reports that were erroneously published.
She said the demand for construction workers that were earlier said to be for the US mainland are actually for Guam’s planned development this year for a modern and integrated military facility. Guam is a US territory in the Pacific.

However, she said recruitment for Guam may not develop soon since it is dealing with the issue of relocating the Futenma Marine base in Okinawa, Japan.

In a statement, the POEA official also said reports of employment opportunities in the oil and gas industries in the US are erroneous and warned overseas Filipino workers against recruiters who promise immediate departures for the US mainland and Guam.
Manalili also said there are no approved job orders for dog handlers in Dubai.

Australia to hire thousands of skilled OFWs

12/27/2009 GMA News Thousands of skilled overseas Filipino workers (OFW) are expected to be employed in Australia next year with the scheduled signing of a labor agreement next month, Labor Secretary Marianito Roque said Sunday.

Roque said he would flying to Australia on January to sign the agreement for the hiring of thousands of Filipino professionals.

“Those who would qualify for the jobs would get at least $4,000 monthly salary and there would be no placement fee," Roque said.

The government had earlier reported that Australia is expected to hire about 300,000 Filipino workers in the next three to five years.

POEA warns on fake job offers abroad

Dec 19th, 2009 The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) warned jobseekers Friday against individuals offering work opportunities in the United States, Canada and Lebanon.

POEA Administrator Jennifer Manalili said Filipino nurses should be wary of illegal recruiters offering jobs in the US and Canada who use names of existing foreign agencies and e-mails like hansbeda@aol.com to recruit new nurses for the three mentioned destinations.

Manalili said the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa has received complaints from a number of Filipino nurses who were allegedly recruited by a nurse recruiting agent from the US named Agerico Casey Gabriel also known as Casey Gabriel or under the name of Medical Caregiver Management.

Gabriel’s modus operandi is to introduce himself as an agent of Medical Link or other legitimate US-based nurse recruiting agency.

“He usually holds a recruitment conference without asking any money from the victims. After gaining their trust, he then asks for money allegedly for escrow payments required for visas to ‘complete the process,’” Manalili said.

However, the President of Medical Link and an official of another agency have denied any ongoing recruitment for foreign nurses and any knowledge of one Agerico Casey Gabriel.

On the other hand, Manalili maintained that the total ban on the deployment to Lebanon is still in effect amidst reports that a number of household workers who left the country illegally despite their personal knowledge of the ban are presently stranded at the Philippine Embassy in London. OFWs see bleak prospects for 2010

The Philippine Star December 15, 2009 MANILA, Philippines - The outlook for overseas employment opportunities in 2010 is bleak with international labor markets virtually closed because most economies are still hurting from the onslaught of the global financial crisis.

The Federated Association of Manpower Exporters (FAME) said job orders from Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, considered the best countries for expatriates, have stopped.

Australia has dodged recession in the second half of the year but has started cutting back on immigration since the first quarter of the year when recession threatened its economy.

New Zealand emerged from recession in the second half of the year but its economy is still expected to be bumpy in the following months.

Canada exited recession in the third quarter of the year. “Those markets are have dried up and only the Middle East countries of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, and Libya are hiring workers,” said FAME director Lito Soriano

Fees cut number of Pinoy domestic help in Taiwan

12/14/2009 from GMA News Indonesian and Vietnamese domestic helpers in Taiwan have given their Filipino counterparts a run for their money.

Fees charged by brokers of Filipino domestic helpers have gone up, reducing Taiwanese employers’ interest in hiring them, the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) said.

Brokers charge NT60,000 every year for three years from Taiwanese employers seeking to employ Filipino domestic workers. This is lower than the NT160,000 charged for domestic helpers of other nationalities.

As a result, Taiwan-based Filipino domestic helpers have been cut by a third to the current 20,000 from a peak of 60,000 during the last five years, said Carlo Aquino, MECO director of assistance to nationals said. Recruitment agencies warned (BSP) against making statements about the expected rise in remittances from overseas Filipino workers (OFWs)

The Federated Association of Manpower Exporters (Fame) said the repeated statements announcing new markets in New Zealand, Canada, Australia, Japan and Guam as possible sources of dollar remittances was just giving more information to illegal recruitment syndicates that entice jobless Filipinos with the promise of high wages.

As for Australia, New Zealand and Canada, Soriano said the “real” situation was that the three countries were in recession and job orders had completely stopped.

In East Asia, Soriano said the POEA deployed only 30 caregivers and nurses to Japan on Sept. 27 while the South Korea trainee deployment has not reached even 4,000 in 2009. Taiwan’s special hiring program has only deployed less than a thousand for 2008 compared to the private sector, which deployed more than 40,000 factory worker and caregivers.

“Those markets have dried up and only the Middle East countries of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar and Libya where over two million Filipinos are concentrated are steadily increasing remittances flows,” Soriano said.

MANILA, Philippines - The booming business process outsourcing (BPO) industry in the country is expected to employ at least one million Filipinos by 2010, Malacañang said yesterday.

A Palace statement said that although BPOs started in the country in the 1990s, the industry "really took off" shortly after President Arroyo assumed power in 2001.

"From 4,000 in 2001, the number of BPO workers reached 350,000 in 2007, spurred on in part by the country's stable economic environment and by aggressive marketing abroad by the President," the Palace said.

"There were 400,000 workers as of February 2009. It is estimated that by 2010, available jobs will be 900,000 despite the ongoing global economic slowdown," the statement reads.

It said Mrs. Arroyo put up the "Cyber-Corridor" information and communications technology (ICT) channel running the length of the Philippines that interconnects BPO service centers all over the country, "to efficiently bring together cyber service providers and BPO locators."

"The goal is to employ one million workers by 2010," the statement said.

The sector's future growth can be traced in part to the country's two-pronged strategy. While the country will continue to offer voice-activated services, which require facility in English as well as other languages, it will also branch out to non-voice services such as medical transcription and animation as well as to the more lucrative development of software.

The President said the fast development of the BPO industry in the country is an example of an industry that nobody ever thought before would become a driver of growth.

"This is an example of what I said that we want to create jobs so that, for (Filipinos), it will be a career choice to go abroad and not the only choice," Mrs. Arroyo has said in her speeches.

As of end of 2008, the sector generated $6.1 billion in revenues and is projected to reach $13 billion in 2010. This is only 6.7 percent of the estimated $326 billion global ICT outsourcing market, according to data issued by the Canada-based ICT research and advisory firm XMG Global.

The Philippines is the third top performing offshore country in the Asia Pacific, next to India and China. The Philippines is aiming for a 10 percent market share as it sells its many advantage to companies in the United States and Europe, the Palace statement said.

"These includes a steady supply of competent and educated workers, improving telecommunications infrastructures, and government incentives," it said.

Although the majority of BPO companies are located in Metro Manila, there is a marked migration into other key economic centers of the country such as in Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Subic, Bacolod and Baguio, to either be closer to their employee base or, in part, to keep their costs, such as leases, as low as possible.

To further aid the sunrise industry, government has allocated P350 million for a training program called PGMA-Training for Work Scholarship Program (PGMA-TSWP) through the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in partnership with the Business Process Association of the Philippines (BPAP). The training program does not only cover English
language proficiency but also the use of computers.

"Likewise, government is offering significant fiscal and non-fiscal incentives to attract more foreign direct investments, primarily through its Cyber Corridor project, which is part of the President's 10-point agenda," it said.

DOLE: Pinoys have better jobs
Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reported that Filipinos have better jobs now despite the lingering effects of the financial crisis.

DOLE officials said the quality of employment has improved for Filipinos as indicated by results of the latest National Statistics Office (NSO) Survey.

Based on the July 2009 Labor Force Survey (LFS), DOLE said the number of wage and salary workers rose by 1.3 million compared to the same period last year, while the number of persons in full-time employment increased by half a million.

DOLE further noted that except for the Bicol region, employment rate in all regions posted growth with the National Capital Region (NCR) positing the highest gain of 142,000 more workers.

DOLE is currently developing a new skills registry system in an effort to make it easier for the government to assess the demand for skills in the labor market.

Acting Secretary Romeo Lagman said the envisioned skills registry has been piloted in select regions, provinces, cities and municipalities, and its full implementation will kick off in October.

Lagman said the planned National Skills Registry System (SRS) will combine the existing skills registries of PhilJob.net and the Public Employment Service Office. He said the SRS is a computerized system which captures and updates in a register skills and qualifications of interested workers.

The system also lists down establishments and their job vacancies in the community for quick access by jobseekers and employers, both local and foreign.

Unlike the existing skills registries of PhilJob.net and the PESOs, the SRS is live and dynamic because it will be regularly updated and tied up to the relevant educational background of jobseekers and the needs of the employers.

"Ultimately, the SRS will solve the country's perennial problem of jobs
mismatch," Lagman said.

Comelec needs 50,000 IT workers

MANILA, Philippines—At least 50,000 information technology personnel are needed for next year’s automated national elections, a Commission on Elections official said Wednesday.

Election Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal said in a news briefing that Smartmatic TIM Corp., the automated elections contractor, was hiring about 40,000 IT workers to help in the country’s biggest IT project.

The Smartmatic TIM personnel will do mainly technical support work. They will help in the maintenance and operations of the ballot scanners, officially called Precinct Count Optical Scan machines, on May 10.

Some will be deployed to the field, while some will work in the company’s call center to respond to technical questions.

At the same time, the Comelec and the Department of Science and Technology are currently training a total of 500 IT experts to train and accredit the Board of Election Inspectors (BEI), Larrazabal said.
The Comelec will use 82,000 scanners in next year’s elections.

To ensure that the operations will be smooth on election day, the poll body has ordered that at least one member of the BEI should have IT knowledge and training on how to handle the scanners.
The poll body has coordinated with the local IT industry for its personnel requirements, he said.
The Comelec said it will field 100 IT-knowledgeable organic personnel to various municipalities and cities to supervise the poll proceedings.

Volunteers from the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting, the Comelec’s citizens’ arm, will also train for the project.

All the IT workers will be accredited by the DOST.

Bonifacio Belen, Smartmatic TIM manager, said the company last week held a workshop to develop methods on hiring and training of personnel. The company will start training the employees in January next year.
He said the company was optimistic there would be enough workers for the project.

“There is no shortage of patriotic and IT-savvy Filipinos who want to be part of history,” he said.
Smartmatic TIM has tapped manpower firms Placewell, Manred, and Ventureslink to hire the support personnel. Applicants are advised to send their resumes to the said agencies.

Meanwhile, Larrazabal said the Comelec has directed the election contractor to ensure that its workers do not have partisan streaks.

Applicants for key positions will undergo background checks, Larrazabal said.
Under the Comelec’s rules, only BEI members can handle the election and voting machines. Smartmatic TIM employees will only advise the BEI members should the machines malfunction.

Larrazabal said the Smartmatic TIM will carefully screen applicants and make them sign an affidavit stating that they do not have political connections.

The BLS reports that accounting clerks earned mean annual wages of $33,800 in 2008. Earn your degree online, and you might not need to make any changes to your current work schedule while you train.

Career #4: Executive Secretaries
Far from an ordinary secretarial job, this career comes with the distinction of working at the top of the secretarial career ladder. Executive secretaries perform high-level administrative support, working closely with executives and other top staff. Training and supervisory duties are often expected, and executive secretaries often hold at least an associate’s degree in office administration. These trained pros earned mean annual wages of $42,340 in 2008, according to the BLS, and about 497,000 new careers are expected to open up through 2016.

Career #5: Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers
If you have some retail work experience and you’re looking for a leg up, take heart; this is one career with a lot of growth potential. The BLS projects that about 352,000 new jobs for retail sales supervisors are expected to open up through 2016. What’s more, the degree profile for the job is somewhat broad, meaning that the type of bachelor’s degree you earn doesn’t matter as much as the fact of the degree itself. For the most competitive management careers, a master’s degree in business may be recommended. Supervisors of retail sales workers earned mean annual wages of $39,910 in 2008, the BLS notes.

Philippine Emergency job program to hire 93,000 workers

MANILA, Philippines – Government agencies will hire some 93,000 unemployed or underemployed Filipinos this year for a P1.77-billion roadside maintenance program in line with President Arroyo’s call for agencies to strengthen the country’s economic foundation in the face of continuing uncertainties in the global economy and international labor markets, Malacañang announced yesterday.

National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) Secretary Domingo Panganiban said the move was in line with the development plans of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Arroyo emergency job plan under the Economic Resiliency Program (ERP).

“The country’s national roads are essential to the strength and stability of the economy, helping to encourage investments and create jobs for a vast number of the Filipino poor,” Panganiban said.
“While experts have noted signs of recovery in the global economy, now is not the time for complacency,” the NAPC chief said. “We are still in the thick of what is probably the worst economic slump in modern history.”

NAPC, which is under the Office of the President, oversees the Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP), launched by Mrs. Arroyo in October 2008 to address the need for new jobs as a result of the global economic meltdown.

The Arroyo government has assured the availability of jobs and employment opportunities for poor Filipinos amid the global economic slowdown through the employment program.
The President has cited ERP and CLEEP as priority programs that the government is vigorously implementing.

Mrs. Arroyo had said that local government units (LGUs), in partnership with the private sector, are working doubly hard in creating and maintaining jobs as well as in investing on vital infrastructures, livelihood programs and other economic activities that will help generate more employment.
Panganiban said the new hires would work on some 30,000 kilometers of national roads under the Out of School Youth Towards Economic Recovery (OYSTER) program of the DPWH.
“The workers will see to the maintenance of around 30,000 kilometers of national roads under OYSTER Program of the DPWH,” Panganiban said.

Panganiban said the DPWH had already met a considerable portion of its emergency employment targets and was able to hire 42,930 workers for various roadside maintenance projects nationwide as of Sept. 30 this year.

He said the government plans for the employment of some 59,968 roadside maintenance workers in Luzon while 14,120 more laborers are put to work in roadside projects in the Visayas.

Cebu Youth training group gets P485T for IT program

THE Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) released P485,000 to the Archdiocesan Youthlinks Training and Assessment Center Inc. for the implementation of the Kabataan ITO (Information Technology Opportunities)
project.

"We are promoting youth-inspired programs to alleviate hunger in our community," said Dole 7 Director Elias Cayanong during the launching of the Kabataan ITO at the Capitol Parish Gymnasium yesterday. He said the IT training will help beneficiaries land jobs in business process outsourcing (BPO) firms, call centers and design and animation companies.

Dole 7 has partnered with the 150 graduates of Youthlinks in giving free tutorials for out-of-school and out-of-work youth and workers of informal sectors such as street vendors.

Five tutees will be assigned per graduate. They will be given a minimum of 22 hours of training on computer hardware familiarization, computer operations, computer application processing and Internet operations. Officials said the Kabataan ITO is an "earning" and "learning" IT project, which aims to provide free IT mentoring sessions but pays each graduate or tutor an honorarium of P25 per hour.

Cayanong said the project will also provide free supervised Internet access on online government programs and services. Mario Marababol, Youthlinks corporate secretary, said the total cost allocated for the project is P669,000. The amount covers the P485,000 granted by the Dole 7 for brand new CPUs, digital cameras and honorarium for the tutors and P184,000 from Youthlinks, which will cover facility expenses.

The amount will also finance YES (Youth Entrepreneur Support), which is still to be launched.

"We want to equip the out-of-school youth with IT skills and trainings as a means of support when they seek jobs," said Msgr. Arturo Navales, director of Youthlinks.

"I am overwhelmed with the opportunity given to us by Dole. It is a way nga kami nga mga unemployed maka-share sa among mga nakat-unan sa uban," said

Rolinda Comahig, a graduate of Youthlinks computer programming and Auto CAD. Marababol said that although Dole's funding for the project is only until December, Youthlinks will continue the program through YES, which aims to
prepare Youthlinks graduates to harness and practice entrepreneurial skills utilizing IT as a tool.

"The income generated for this project will sponsor the IT literacy programs," he said.
